I found this mushroom on the morning of June 9th 2005 here on the Rockin L-H Asparagus Farm, McIntosh County Oklahoma next to Lake Eufaula.

I have emailed the photos to a few mushroom experts and so far they have been unable to identify it. Until someone comes up with a photo and a name for it, I named it ”Lee Henrys Black And Gold Hairnet”. (Grin)

I found it at around 09:00 AM.  I went to the house retrieved my camera and my wife Sharon.  I took 6 different photos and they are now posted on our web sites castironkettlecookout.com and benjacklarado.com  They are so gorgeous that the whole world needs to see them.

At about 1:00 that evening a friend came by for a look see. Much to my surprise it was swiveled up into a black glob. I figure it came up sometime the night before as I travel that trail 6 or 7 times daily. So the odds of seeing some thing this beautiful must be a million to one. Those of us that saw such a creation by our maker alive and in its element are truly blessed. The life cycle of the mushroom was only about 9 or 10 hours.

Later that evening I took a small shovel and a plastic bag and put the remains in the freezer. It was probably the wrong thing to do but I thought someone might want to try and reproduce it.

Could this be a rare species of mushroom?  Perhaps it is a species of mushroom unclassified or unidentified.  It could be that we discovered a mushroom never seen before right here on the Rockin L-H Asparagus Farm If anyone can come up with any more information on this species please notify me.  The first person that identifies this mushroom and can verify identification will receive a 4th of July BBQ package worth $146.33!

Possible breaking news!!! The mushroom may have been identified by renowned Professor.  More details as they come in!!!
